A new TV ad by Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes touts her work in helping bring about Kentucky's Address Confidentiality Program, which permits victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to scrap their addresses for public voter registration rolls.

"Something good can still happen here," says a narrator in the ad, Markas Brunson, described as the son of a domestic violence victim. "Alison Lundergan Grimes brought Democrats and Republicans together to pass a law so victims of domestic violence could vote without their address being made public." - TPM, 10/16/14

Here's some more info:

A newly launched program allows victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Kentucky to remove their addresses from public voter registration records in an attempt to stay safe from their abusers.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, at a Capitol news conference, said the Address Confidentiality Program will "allow people to register to vote and vote without fear for their safety, or the safety of their children."

The program was created by House Bill 222 in last year's General Assembly. Rep. Joni Jenkins, D-Louisville, sponsored the measure.

To be eligible to participate in the free program, a person must have either a current emergency protective order or a domestic violence order, or be a victim of a specified sex offense in a criminal case that is open or has resulted in a conviction. - Lexington Herald-Leader, 3/25/14

It remains to be seen with the latest news out of Kentucky but the press hasn't been that great for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R. KY) either:

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) doesn’t know what he thinks about Ebola. He’s gone a bit Etch-A-Sketch Romney, trying to keep up with the various demands of different constituencies, telling the local press exactly what the Republican Party extremist are saying, while telling the national press that we should let the CDC handle it.

McConnell told NBC as reported by the Huffington Post that he thinks we should leave these decisions to the CDC, “‘Gosh, I’d leave that up to the CDC…I think we ought to listen to what the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] thinks they need either in terms of financing or certainly they’ll decide the procedures for travel and all the renast,’ McConnell told NBC News in an interview. ‘I think we need to follow the advice of the experts who know how to fight scourges like this.'”

On the same day, McConnell told local Kentucky press Pure Politics cn|2 exactly what the Republican Party is selling on Fox News, that it was a good idea to discontinue flights. “I’m not an expert on this, but it strikes me that it would be a good idea to discontinue flights from that part of the world.” - Politicus USA, 10/17/14

Plus there's this:

http://www.cleveland.com/...

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) became the latest politician to garner lots of attention for all the wrong reasons when he uttered a salacious pseudo-word during the  Senate debate with Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes Monday night.

When discussing Obamacare, McConnell said the Affordable Care Act has "'rimracked' the private insurance market."

Rimracked isn't a word at all, but is is defined in the Urban Dictionary as a  sexual act. - Northeast Ohio Media Group, 10/14/14

And this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...

McConnell replied that the "minimum wage is largely an entry-level wage." He argued that raising it to $10.10 an hour -- as many Democrats would like -- would lead to "destroying jobs for young people." (In fact, according to the Economic Policy Institute, 88 percent of workers who would benefit from a higher minimum wage are older than 20.)

Grimes, however, said the country needed to "increase the minimum wage so that it is a living wage. $7.25 an hour does not allow a family of four to actually rise above poverty level."

She then blasted McConnell for not caring about the interests of low-income residents of the state: "He's gotten rich while consistently voting to keep Kentucky poor, and we can't have a senator like that any longer."

McConnell then jumped in to defend his honor:

McCONNELL: I can't let that stand. She's been given four Pinocchios for that as well.

GRIMES: So you're not a multimillionaire?

McCONNELL: To claim that I got rich at public expense -- she knows that that's a result of an inheritance that my wife got when her mother passed away. And she's consistently gone around, Bill, all over the state, and suggested that I've somehow enriched myself at public expense.

Let me tell you, her family has made more money off the government in the last 10 years than I've been paid in a salary in all my time in the Senate. That is an outrageous suggestion. She knows it's wrong. She's been given four Pinocchios repeatedly for continuing to say that. - Huffington Post, 10/14/14

This might explain how McConnell inherited his wealth:

http://www.motherjones.com/...

There may be no Washington lawmaker cozier with K Street than Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). DC law firms and lobbying shops are stuffed with ex-McConnell staffers and pals. And he uses them well to preserve his power and position. As the conservative National Review reported, "McConnell has often exercised power in DC by pressuring major donors to withhold donations from a given lawmaker or organization. His allies on K Street are often the people who deliver this message and 'enforce' it." The stats below show just how close McConnell is with the well-heeled lobbyists of Washington, DC—a relationship that no doubt will serve both sides well, should the GOP win the Senate and McConnell become its majority leader. - Mother Jones, 10/17/14
Give the Mother Jones article a read. While Grimes recently had Hillary Clinton hit the campaign trail, the Big Dog is coming back to Kentucky this week:

http://www.bgdailynews.com/...

Bill Clinton will campaign with Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes in western Kentucky on Tuesday.

This will be Clinton's third trip to the Bluegrass State to stump for Grimes. In August he spoke at a Lexington fundraiser and a campaign rally in Hazard, the latter providing footage for a statewide TV ad.
