Click here to add your name:A lot has happened since the governor said last year that fracking could be fabulous for California.Now we know, from peer-reviewed science from around the country, that fracking is associated with unfixable ground and surface water pollution. It is linked to serious air pollution, earthquakes, and birth defects. And, according to the latest government downgraded estimates on oil recoverable by fracking methods in California, extreme oil extraction methods like fracking are not going to produce the bonanza of jobs that the governor once believed they would.
So help give the governor another chance to be prudent and wise. Urge him today to use his executive power to impose a moratorium on fracking and well stimulation until we know it won’t wreak the same havoc on our public health and environment that it has in other parts of the country.

Late last month, a fracking moratorium bill failed in the California Senate by just three votes. But that doesn’t mean the fight to protect California from extreme oil extraction methods is over. Indeed, it has just begun.
A poll in May showed that at least 68% of California voters—including Democrats, Republicans and Decline-to-State voters—support a fracking moratorium. Around the state, local moratoria and ban ordinances and ballot measures are proceeding assertively, despite heavy spending by the oil industry to stop them.
If the oil industry wins, California’s economic and environmental future will continue to be dominated by carbon fuels that will accelerate and heighten the effects of climate disruption. If the majority of Californians win, a moratorium on fracking will help accelerate investment in clean energy and increase the hope that we can significantly slow climate disruption.
A single person can make all the difference. The governor has the power to step into the debate and impose a sensible moratorium on fracking and well stimulation. Urge the governor to become the climate hero we think he is capable of becoming.
