FL-Gov: UNF Poll Has Charlie Crist (D) Leading Rick Scott (R) By 1 Point

I don't know how accurate the University of Northern Florida's polling is but they're showing a tighter race in this year's Governor's race:

In the latest poll from the University of North Florida, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist maintains a slight lead over incumbent Governor Rick Scott.

Of the 507 registered voters surveyed between March 6-16, 34 percent favored Crist, while 33 percent want to keep Scott.

UNF political science professor Dr. Michael Binder said the more telling result is the percentage of those who don’t like either candidate; 17 percent of those polled said they’d prefer somebody else.

“If you add up the 'somebody elses' and the 'don’t knows,' that was almost as much as the other two candidates at 34 percent," Binder said. "So I think there’s certainly some ambivalence and some uncertainty about peoples' choices that they’re facing in November.” - WJCT News, 3/17/14

Some more details on UNF's poll:

The survey was conducted through the use of a 27-station telephone-polling laboratory at UNF, according to a news release. A polling sample was selected through the use of random-digit-dialing methodology. A cellphone sample was used to increase representation. Age, gender, race education and party registration were weighted to the most recent U.S. Census data, as well as to statistics from the Duval County Supervisor of Elections.

The survey was conducted between March 6 and Sunday, and includes 507 registered voters (+/- 4.35 percent). About 50 trained interviewers participated in the data collection. - News 4 JAX, 3/17/14

Again, not sure what UNF's track record is but if there's something positive to take away from this poll it's that Crist is with the voters on a key issue:

Medical marijuana, which will be on the November ballot as Proposition 2, has support at a 74 percent clip. Another 22 percent said they would vote no, while 4 percent said they didn’t know or had no answer. In another marijuana-related question, 46 percent of those polled said they “strongly oppose” Florida adults to possess small amount for recreational use, while 25 percent “strongly support.”“Somewhat support” earned a 16 percent vote and “somewhat oppose” garnered 11 percent. - Jacksonville Daily Record, 3/17/14
Crist is a big time supporter of medical marijuana and could use this issue in the race.  But one issue Crist has been hitting Scott hard on lately has been jobs:

http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/...

"Rick Scott’s 1.7 million jobs promise is failing because he handed a billion dollars in corporate tax breaks to his buddies for almost no jobs, while cutting education and training," said spokesman Kevin Cate. "He is still desperately attempting to take credit for a recovery that’s more anemic than what the economy was already predicted to do on its own."

When Scott ran for office, he promised the state would add 1.7 million jobs.

Pointing to an article from the Tampa Bay Times, Crist noted Florida lost 2,600 jobs in January, led by workforce drops in retail, hotels, restaurants and health care. - Sunshine State News, 3/17/14

It's still a while away from November and with Scott being very vulnerable he's going to spend big to defeat Crist.  lets make sure Crist's campaign is ready to take him on win in November.  Click here to donate or get involved with Crist's campaign:
