WI-Gov: Mary Burke (D) Calls For Marriage Equality In Wisconsin

Received this e-mail from gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke's (D. WI) campaign today regarding marriage equality in the Badger State:
I need your help.

I love Wisconsin and want to see it thrive, but backwards policies like the same sex marriage ban are hurting our friends, neighbors and families and harming our economy.

Giving full marriage rights to committed, same-sex couples is the fair and right thing to do. Yet, even after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the federal recognition of same-sex marriages, several states including Wisconsin still uphold a same-sex marriage ban.

That just isn’t right. Everyone should have the freedom to marry whomever they choose. Will you stand with me in support of marriage equality?

Restricting same sex marriage doesn’t just hurt our fellow Wisconsinites it hurts our economy too. If we want to attract and retain the best talent in this state, discriminating against people because of who they love is wrong and harmful to our economic growth.

Wisconsin businesses compete everyday with folks in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Minneapolis. Every barrier that the state throws up that might dissuade talented people from coming to Wisconsin makes it harder to do business in our state.

Wisconsin’s ban on marriage equality is wrong and harmful. If truly we want to be open for business, why would our government place unnecessary barriers to success?

Add your voice today to stand with the Democratic Governors Association and myself in support of marriage equality.

Thanks for making a difference in the lives of all of our friends and families by fighting for real Wisconsin values.

Your continued support means a lot to me.

Sincerely,

Mary

P.S. Even Rasmussmen now shows that Burke is tied with Scott Walker (R. WI):

The poll found Walker tied with Democrat Mary Burke with each candidate getting 45 percent of support of those surveyed. Five percent said they preferred some other candidate in the race and the last five percent said they were not sure who they supported.

A Marquette University Law School poll in 2013 found Burke narrowly trailing Walker. That poll found Walker with 47.1 percent support while Burke had 44.9 percent support.

The poll's findings comes roughly a month after a massive document dump of emails from Walker's days as Milwaukee County executive. That file release came out as part of an ongoing investigation into whether Walker and staff improperly engaged in campaign activity on government time. Burke's campaign has been somewhat mum on the investigation but she didn't exactly say it should be ignored by voters.

"Absolutely, I think voters have a right to know who they're voting for and whether there are any legal issues surrounding candidates," Burke said at a press conference in February about the investigation. - TPM, 3/12/14

The Rasmussen poll was conducted statewide among 500 likely voters from March 10 to March 11. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.  If you'd like to get involved or donate to Burke's campaign, you can do so here:
