Received this e-mail today from Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes' (D. KY) U.S. Senate campaign calling on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R. KY) and his GOP obstructionist allies in Congress to extend unemployment benefits:
This December, political gridlock in Washington forced millions of Americans – and 18,000 Kentuckians and their families – to go without long-term unemployment insurance benefits through the holiday season.

Now, the Senate has taken one bipartisan step toward extending unemployment insurance and providing relief for struggling families across our nation. But the work isn't done.

Obstructionists in Congress, led by Senator Mitch McConnell, are once again choosing the Tea Party agenda over American families and threatening to block the momentum we've already achieved. They're determined to keep this important piece of legislation from turning into law.

It will take all of us working together to put an end to the obstruction and ensure the extension of unemployment insurance benefits gets passed immediately. Will you add your name in support today?

Here in Kentucky, we say you don’t kick a man when he’s down. No matter what Senator McConnell may think, unemployed Americans are not our enemies. They are our friends and neighbors, and they are being forced to choose between keeping bills paid and putting food on the table while they look for work.

It’s unfortunate that Senator McConnell is once again turning his back on folks like the 1,200 miners who recently lost their jobs in Pike County. It’s time we had a leader that will stand for you, not Washington’s culture of gridlock.

As U.S. Senator, I pledge to work across the aisle and be there for those who deserve help in times of need. These are good people experiencing harsh times. They have worked hard and want to work hard again.

Stand with my friends in the Senate and me in telling Congress: It’s time to stop the gridlock and deliver solutions.
